Keeping a Reno Site Efficient and Organized
A renovation that touches every room in a house isn't just a construction project. It's a coordination problem.
Trades cycling in and out. Work sequences that depend on each other. Details that live in one person’s head until they don’t. When a site gets chaotic, the work suffers — and so does the outcome for the client.
The systems that keep it moving
On a project like this one, staying organized isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the job.
We put physical binders on site — multiple, fully loaded with every plan a trade might need, labeled clearly and required to be back on the trades table at the end of every day. No hunting, no guessing, no one starting their morning without the information they need.
We also posted QR codes throughout the site, specific to each room. Any trade could scan it on their phone and pull up exactly what was needed for that space, that day. The information lives where the work is happening.
“We want to make life for our trades as easy as possible — so we put all these systems in place so that their work is easy, and therefore they’re going to do better work, and it’s going to be a better outcome for our clients.”
The bigger picture
The binders and QR codes are tools. But the more important thing is making sure every trade understands how their work fits into the whole.
It’s easy to show up, do your piece, and leave. What’s harder — and what makes the difference on a complex project — is understanding how the work before you shaped what you’re walking into, and how your work is going to affect the next person through the door. That’s not something a binder communicates on its own. That’s what we’re there for.
As the designer and general contractor, bridging those gaps is our responsibility. The trades do better work when they see the full picture. And when the trades do better work, the client gets a better home.
