Are you planning to renovate your home or redesign your space? If so, you may be wondering whether you should hire an interior designer or tackle the project on your own. While DIY projects can be fun and rewarding, working with an experienced interior designer offers numerous benefits. In this blog post, we’ll explore how working with an interior designer can save you time, money and headaches while achieving the best outcome.
One of the main benefits of working with an interior designer is the time savings. A professional interior designer has the expertise and experience to take on your project from start to finish, leaving you free to focus on other things. They know the best materials, where to source them, how to create a design that meets your needs and budget, and can pull all the trades together, communicating the design effectively to bring it to fruition. This saves you the time and energy that you would otherwise spend researching and selecting products, suppliers and numerous subtrades.
Another key benefit of working with an interior designer is the potential for cost savings. While it may seem counterintuitive that hiring a designer might save you money, a professional designer has the expertise and relationships to source materials and products that suit your needs at a lower cost. Additionally, they can help you avoid costly mistakes that can arise from design or material selection errors. (Read on for a real-life example!) Finally, a designer can also help you avoid overcapitalizing on your home, especially if you’re planning to sell and don’t want to spend more than you’ll get back in the sale.
Interior design projects can be overwhelming, with many moving parts to coordinate and decisions to be made. Working with an interior designer can help eliminate these headaches, as they are often experienced project managers as well as designers, or work within a design and build team, such as ourselves! They can help manage all aspects of your project, from planning and design to logistics and oversight of construction. This means that you will have peace of mind knowing that your project is being handled by an expert, reducing your stress and worry.
Finally, working with an experienced interior designer helps you to achieve the best outcome for your renovation project. A professional designer will work closely with you to understand your vision, needs and budget, and translate these into a functional, professional-looking design. They will also coordinate the various contractors and suppliers involved in your project, ensuring a cohesive outcome. A designer is also familiar with the latest trends and can help you strike the perfect balance between style, function and comfort.
In conclusion, working with an experienced interior designer can save you time, money and headaches while delivering the best outcome for your renovation project. From project management and cost savings to design creativity and peace of mind, it’s clear that there are many benefits to hiring an interior designer. Whether you’re planning a small renovation or a major overhaul, working with a designer is an invaluable investment in the comfort and appeal of your home.
As I’ve said before, one wrong decision pays for the designer!
A good example of this was a call I got from a word of mouth referral who had just invested in having her kitchen cabinetry professionally sprayed in her Tuscan style home. She had selected a greige, with violet undertones, in an attempt to modernize her home. Even before stepping on site, I knew exactly what had happened. All the fixed elements in her home (tile floor, granite countertops, stone fireplace surround, wall colours) that were all versions of beige made the brand new greige cabinetry go PURPLE. She hired me to help her choose a new colour, but felt the sting of not investing in a designers advice the first time around!
